discover our story
Every great gym starts with a story. Ours grew from passion, was rebuilt through resilience, and lives on because of our community.
Where It All Began

There has always been a love for fitness at the heart of Gravity Fitness. Our founder, Kieran Rundle, trained wherever he went, competed in a transformation challenge, and won, a moment that sparked something bigger. That drive for improvement led him to complete his Certificate III and IV in Fitness, and while working part time as a personal trainer and managing a skydiving operation, he was offered a collection of second hand gym equipment. That was the turning point, the chance to build a gym of his own.
In 2015 we opened our doors in a modest building in Airlie Beach with one clear goal, to create a friendly and welcoming training space where everyone feels at home. After years of training in gyms where etiquette was lacking and attitudes weren’t exactly inviting, Kieran knew the difference a positive culture could make. So we set high standards: towels on benches, weights returned, and mutual respect at the core of everything. That simple foundation has created a genuine family feel, where people know each other by name and where “hello” is part of the workout routine.
The Storm That Tested Us

Then came a major test. In 2017, Cyclone Debbie tore through the Whitsundays, ripping the roof off our original building and flooding the gym. Rather than give up, we rolled up our sleeves, found a new weatherproof space, and rebuilt from the ground up. By July 2017 we had reopened in our current home, a former mechanic’s workshop that we cleaned out, painted, refitted, and floored from scratch. With the help of some of our members, the entire transformation was completed in just two weeks. Kieran practically lived on site during that time, working around the clock to make sure no one was left without their gym for long.
Since then, we’ve continued to grow. We expanded into the adjoining building, doubling our size and welcoming more members than ever. Our landlord jokes that we’re the only tenants to have “evicted” their landlord, as he once kept that space for himself until we convinced him it would serve the community better filled with barbells and motivation. And yes, we’ve been trying to get showers ever since, please have faith in us, we’re working on it!
A New Era Begins

Over the years, Gravity has welcomed everyone from a top 10 Mr Olympia bodybuilding pro to world class athletes and everyday locals simply wanting to stay fit and healthy. Because here at Gravity, everyone trains side by side. We believe in a gym where beginners, weekend warriors, and athletes alike come together to train, support each other, and grow, not just physically, but mentally and as a community.
Our vision has always been to keep evolving while staying true to our roots. We’re proud of what we’ve built, of the people who make this place what it is, and of the energy that fills the gym every day. The future is about expanding possibilities, new training zones, new ways to move, new faces joining the family, and the same friendly atmosphere that started it all.
